REL 201 - World Religions

Credits: 3

This course surveys the major world religions in both the West and the East (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism), exploring the questions and ideas that unite and divide them through a philosophical lens.  Possible topics will include: What is the nature of religion? Can all religions be true, or do they contradict one another? What is the concept of God? How can we speak meaningfully about God, if there is one?  What are miracles, and are they possible? Can we sensibly believe testimony that a miracle has occurred? Is there life after death? If so, what might it be like?
Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer
