ENG 307 - Topics in Speculative Fiction Credits: 3
This course examines the rich and evolving landscape of speculative fiction, a broad category that imagines realities beyond the limits of the everyday world. Each iteration of the course focuses on a single genre - such as
science fiction, fantasy, horror, or climate fiction - allowing students to explore that area in depth. Through a close study of a wide range of texts and digital medias students analyze how imagined worlds reflect and challenge contemporary concerns about technology, identity, belief, power, and the unknown. Possible texts might include Frankenstein, Game of Thrones, Jurassic Park, Star Wars (1977), Lord of the Rings, Vicious, and It (2017). Yes, one time and with a different topic
