The Enlightenment was an intellectual movement in the eighteenth century that transformed the cultural, political, and scientific landscape of the Western civilization.  This course examines key issues and arguments from the period and their continuing influence on modern thought.  Among the topics to be covered include: religious toleration, progress and reason, science and religion, the mind and knowledge, beauty and taste, education and human development, global order, and human rights.
