BIO 303 - Forages Crop Production


Credits: 4

This course offers a systematic introduction to forage production, management, and grassland agriculture. Students will explore the botanical, physiological, and ecological foundations of forage species, then examine the management practices necessary for establishment, nutritive quality, and utilization in livestock systems. Through lecture, field work, lab exercises, and case studies, students will integrate scientific principles with practical decision-making in forage systems, including conservation, grazing, and sustainable and traditional forage-livestock integration. This course includes three hours of lecture and three hours of laboratory each week. The laboratory portion of the course will reinforce classroom concepts through hands-on and real farm applications. This will include technical skills and equipment considerations as well as in-field evaluations and management strategies.
Prerequisite: BIO 115   and BIO 116  
Corequisite: BIO 303L
